Things to do in Tampines Hub (OTH)

Located in the Eastern cosmopolitan of our little red dot, there is a commonwealth network of collaborators, library, halal-eateries, activities, sports centres, 24-hours outlets and volunteering events. It is where our old Tampines stadium used to be and is now integrated as a community hub called OTH (Our Tampines Hub).

OTH organised a myriad of Family-focused activities and interest groups to bridge the different generations and foster closer inter-generational. There are various facilities hosted from Basement 1 all the way till Level 7, under one roof.

It is easily reachable to Tampines Interchange by bus or MRT. It’s within walking distance from Tampines Central. The address is 51 Tampines Ave 4
Singapore 529684 (at the junction of Tampines Ave 4 and Tampines Ave 5). Free parking during lunch time from 12 to 2pm.

Please feel free to share your experiences with your comments. Meanwhile, I will just share out the below links on those that my family, my colleagues and I participated:

OTH has also provided volunteering activities. See below article.

OTH is an eco garden using recycled fertilisers from food waste generated from their hawker center. Every month, they will give away the organic fertiliser/ soil every first week of the month to residents and sometime give away a small portion of the gardening from time to time (depending on the nature harvesting periods).

Bring your family and children to show what gardening is like by planting on plants/fruits/vegetables you can find in this little garden.20170501_120545.jpg20170501_121419.jpg20170501_120523_027.jpg20170501_121633.jpg

Reason For The Season

Today we discovered the reasons for the seasons. We took matters into our own hands by exploing the tilt and wobble as the sun shines on different areas of the earth. We examined the complex world of the snowflake and even made a pretty snowflake craft.

Take Home: Snowflake craft                                                                                                                We made a pretty snowflake craft in class. Look at the intricate designs of the snowflake!

Experiments Done in Class: In our first experiment, we learned why we have seasons. He equator goes right around the center of the earth dividing the planet into 2 halves. We have days and nights because the earth is spinning around an axis that goes through the north and south poles. In our next experiment, we made a snowflake that can only be seen during winter.

Magnificent Mountain

Mountains  cover nearly one quarter of the earth’s land. One interesting fact to be considered a mountain, it has to be at least 914m higher than the surrounding land. We discovered vegetative zones and learn about the tropical, deciduous and coniferous forest. We had loads of FUN as we made an avalanche with artificial snow!

Take Home: Craft mountain                                                                                                                 We made our craft mountain lined with deciduous and coniferous trees.

Experiment Done in Class: In today’s experiment, we made an avalanche with artificial snow. Avalanche are small slides of dry powdery snow that move as a formless mass. They can get really big. But, they are just massive “blobs” of snow.
